Employee Spotlight: Courtney Penny

Q: First, what is the name of your role at Revivn?

A: I am the E-Commerce Manager here at Revivn.

Q: Describe to me your position at Revivn.

A: My position at Revivn is to take our inventory and repurpose it to our various sales channels. I work with management to develop a strategy on what quantities go where and whether we want to move them into what we’ve now started to grow into a wholesale channel. I feel like my job is almost transitioning into a manager role - going on any online marketplace that we repurpose through to allocate inventory, working on pricing, helping assist in customer success, making sure inventory is correct, and making sure things are getting shipped on time. Anything to do with something online, I basically have my hands in it.

Q: Tell me a little bit about how you got to this point. Where did your career journey start and how did you end up at Revivn?

A: I started as an intern in fashion - I want to say about 9-10 years ago - and I've always enjoyed doing sales. At first, I was selling and working company to company, mostly just helping our sales team work with stores, but then as I progressed more, I started to make a change into the online platforms. I just had a skill for it - looking at the numbers, forecasting inventory, forecasting pricing. I like working by myself so it's also a big thing that I get to do that, and I get a lot of autonomy. It just kept growing - going from fashion companies, smaller ones than larger ones - and then eventually winding up in the tech space.

Q: What made you want to transition from fashion to tech then?

A: It honestly started when I was working at a company called Duty. They have a big push in sustainability and try to do as much good for the planet as they can while producing something that doesn't hurt the environment, but it doesn't help it either. So I naturally started getting more and more curious about what that means. As Covid went on I also saw a technology gap and I sort of stumbled across Revivn. I really enjoyed what their mission was. I thought if there was an open opportunity to work there, I’d apply. I think we just sort of hit it off because we have a similar mission, so it was really organic.

Q: If you were to identify what drew your attention most to Revivn what would that be?

A:  It would be the idea that I can make myself successful in a business standpoint but also do something to help other people. We all had a helping hand at one point or another so the idea that I get to do two things that I really love at the same time - it's an easy decision for me to work here.

Q: How did you hear about Revivn initially?

A: I saw it on LinkedIn. I wasn't necessarily looking for a job. Sometimes I just see what's out there and honestly, I didn’t know what it was. Something drew me towards Revivn. I was reading about the company and then interestingly, I was on vacation about a week later, and somebody emailed me about an open position I hadn't even applied toward. I was like, “I don't have any record of applying to the job,” so it was sort of a serendipitous moment. When I saw the email, I was like, “Wait, I just read about this place!” So it was sort of in the stars.

Q: What would you say is the proudest thing you've accomplished at Revivn so far?

A: I want to say our increase in revenue but also I’m really proud of the fact that this is my first time ever working in the tech hardware resale industry, and I was able to take strategies that I thought would exist in the business space and use it here. Also being able to work hand in hand with the co-CEOs to really get an understanding of where they're going, what they want, and how they want to get there is great. Those are two things that not only keep me here but that get me really excited every day to come in and work hand in hand with the founders to really make something happen.

Q: What would you say is the best part about working at Revivn?

A: Honestly the closeness of the team. Everybody here is willing and down to help anybody else to get to where they need to be. If I have an issue with something, I can go talk to somebody in operations or talk to somebody in the warehouse or talk to somebody on our partner team. We sit in pods with people from different departments, and we’re able to mesh ideas to really get us all to where we want to go – it’s great. You don't get that in a lot of places

Q:  If you could describe your Revivn experience in one word what would it be?

A: Exciting is a really good one. It’s just exciting. And fulfilling I guess would probably be my favorite word to use. I feel very fulfilled being here.

Q: If you could switch jobs with anyone at Revivn for a day, who would it be?

A: Blane. I would love to be able to sit there and code. I've always found doing tech and development stuff really cool so if I could switch with somebody for one day it would definitely be Blane. Switch with him and have all his tech abilities, yeah, you don't want me just switching with him trying to do the job. I'm just clicking buttons at that point! I was taking courses to learn that skill over the pandemic, and I'm still working at it but to have his skills and to be able to do what he does is really cool. That’s a no-brainer for me.

Q:  What's something people might not know about you?

A: I love country music. It’s probably my favorite genre honestly. It’s the stories! The stories are great. It really gets me, and it makes me feel a certain way. It makes me feel like I'm outside the city when I’m listening to it. I'm from the Midwest, and I have southern roots and so it's like being outside of the city and in the country. “LA Freeway” is my favorite country song.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: I like to watch movies a lot. I’m a big-time movie guy, and I really enjoy just walking my dog and getting outside and having my mind go blank, walking with no destination in mind. Sort of clears my head. The city can be a bit crazy so it's really therapeutic for me to just walk quietly with my dog for a while. I have a dachshund, and she just turned 2. Her name is Bailey!
